In what ways have my perceptions of what technical writing is and does evolved this semester?

Throughout the semester, my perceptions of what technical writing is and does have evolved in several ways. Initially, I viewed technical writing as a purely mechanical task focused on grammar and formatting. However, as I progressed during the semester, I gained a deeper understanding of its purpose and significance. I realized that technical writing is not just about conveying information; it is about effectively communicating complex ideas in a clear and concise manner. I learned that audience analysis, document organization, and visual presentation are crucial elements in technical writing. Through different assignments like Lab Report and Technical Description, and collaboration with peers, I discovered that technical writing is a collaborative and iterative process, where feedback and multiple revisions play a vital role in achieving clarity and usability. Now I think technical writing is a strategic and thoughtful approach to conveying information to specific audiences in a professional and accessible manner.

In the case of the technical description for the Cree light bulb, I used drafting strategies to articulate the specifications, features, and functionality of the light bulb. Additionally, engaging in regular peer feedback and revision processes allowed me to receive valuable insights and improve the quality of my writing.

As for areas of improvement, one aspect I would approach differently in the future is allocating more time for the drafting and revision process. While I recognized the importance of revising and editing, there were instances where I felt rushed or could have benefited from more thorough revisions.
